A gay teenager who was due to be deported to the UK earlier this week is still in detention in Holland.

19-year-old Medhi Kazemi, who faces possible execution by stoning if he returns to Iran, fled for the Netherlands last year after his appeal for asylum in the UK was refused.

He is awaiting the ruling of Dutch court next Monday on whether he should be returned to the UK, who want to deport him to Iran.

"The challenge and legality under question and debate in the Dutch court is if he can or should be deported back to the UK under the Dublin Treaty," said Omar Kuddus of gayasylum,org.

"There is affixed time limit of six months when another EU member state can request deportation under the treaty.

"Gayasylum has been informed (by Medhi's uncle) that the request by the British government was made after this period had expired/ lapsed.

"It is hoped that the judge shall rule in Medhi's favour for non deportation and that shall allow him to make a fresh claim for asylum in the Netherlands based on his sexuality.

"The Netherlands has already established that all Iranian/Kurdish homosexuals come under a 'special group' and do not have to prove their case individually for persecution due to their sexuality and are given asylum."

Medhi left Iran in 2004 to travel to England on a student visa and continue his education.

While he was in the UK he learned that Iranian authorities had arrested his boyfriend Parham back in Iran, and that his boyfriend had been forced to name Medhi as someone with whom he had had a relationship.

Medhi's father had then received a visit from the Tehran police, with an arrest warrant for his son.

In late April his uncle told him Parham had been put to death.

Medhi will have to be repatriated to his country of origin because according to the British government, he does not run any risk there.

He fled in secret from England, intending to take refuge in Canada, but was blocked by the German border police.

After hearing his story, he was sent to Holland, a country known for granting refugee status to Iranian homosexuals, and again handed over to the police.

However, the United Kingdom sent a formal request to Holland asking for Medhi's return to Britain, in order to proceed with his deportation to Iran.

Omar is working in consultation with the boy's uncle, who lives in the UK.

(There are those in the Cornwall Gay Community who KNOWN a homophobic incident can result in twice the abuse, 1st by the original perpetrator, 2nd by Cornwall police attitudes & practises towards gay persons)

Why are (homophobic*) incidents not being reported?

The root problem is that many LGB/T people feel we have inherited a long history of absolutely justified distrust of the police and the whole criminal justice system. It's true that what went on throughout the last century was horrendous; and it's also true that in some places the same kind of prejudice can still be found today. We've seen it in operation ourselves.

But things have moved on. There has been real progress, both locally and nationally. However, it's proved really difficult to spread good news to those who most need to hear it. (See below.)

According to the Firmer Foundation survey mentioned above, over 60% of LGB/T people would or might be deterred from reporting an incident by any or all of these three anxieties:

1. that the police wouldn't take it seriously
2. that they'd encounter a phobic reaction from a police officer
that information about their sexual orientation or gender identity might be stored in a file.
3. Even at the lowest end of the scale, 36% say they would or might be deterred simply by the thought of having to come Out to a police officer.

It is clearly a primary challenge for the police to find ways of dealing with these anxieties. Otherwise a very large minority of people in the rural South West are going to go on feeling barred from accessing justice, or even help. And we believe that to solve these problems, they need the help of the LGB/T communities.

In general, Intercom does believe there's been a lot of real progress from where we were ten years ago. There have been changes that could make a real difference to us all. Have a look at our page on the criminal justice system. We believe that LGB/T people in Devon and Cornwall are now more likely --- far more likely than, say, six or ten years ago --- to be treated equally with other citizens when we report an incident, and to find the incident being taken seriously from the word "go".

One problem is therefore that the great majority of LGB/T people in the peninsula don't know that things have changed. Another problem is that things still haven't changed enough: more real progress needs to be made.

Pink Pasty, err, Yes! Prejudice can still be found primarily in the Cornwall Police force & Cornwall Judicial Service. Little has changed in 2008 in these organisations homophobic stance & delivery against gay persons. That is the experience of some gay persons in Cornwall.

PinkPasty, Err, we KNOW Cornwall police still 'DO NOT TAKE' homophobic incidents seriously when the perpetrator of a homophobic incident reported is in fact 'A POLICE OFFICER!'

Even newly appointed LGBT officers in Cornwall in 2008 'choose' to blind-eye complaints of homophobic police misconduct.

That is simply the factual experience of some gay people in Cornwall!

The Truth is :- Cornwall police remain the single MOST LIKELY organisation to homophobically abuse & violate the life of a gay person living in Cornwall.

After last year's beach party, Cornwall Pride 2008 will be held in the city of Truro on Saturday 23rd August, it has been announced.

After the first meeting of the board, the newly-elected Chairman of Cornwall Pride, Christian Diamant, said:

"The idea of Pride is to be an all inclusive celebration of diversity in Cornwall".

"Everyone will be welcome to participate in the parade through Truro and then onto celebrations afterwards."

This year's Cornwall Pride will have a theatrical theme.

After the parade in the afternoon, there will be an event in Truro itself and then more entertainment in the evening.

"At its most basic what Cornwall Pride is celebrating is the fact that Cornwall is a better place because not everyone is white, not everyone is straight and that Cornwall would be a worse place, if we were all the same," said Mr Diamant.

"Hopefully, the event will be enjoyable for both locals and holiday makers who are visiting our county".

"It would be great to see as many people as possible from around the country to come and support this first Cornish Pride down in our neck of the woods, I'm sure we can promise all a warm welcome!"

(Regrettably last years 2007 Cornwall PRIDE steering group, made up of gay men, gay women & gay youth, disbanded as a DIRECT result of Cornwall police conduct, attitude & practises targeted at some gay people, which seriously put last years PRIDE day in jeopardy. Despite complaint, the IPCC still refuses to investigate police homophobia!)

The LGBT history of Cornwall is a fragile thing due to a long history of Institutional prejudice in the County, in particular by Cornwall police.

For many years during the 1990's the 'Women's Acorn group' & 'Cornwall Lesbian Line', (20 yrs strong!!!)', women’s rock band 'OUT OF THE BLUE', in conjunction with the Cornwall LGBT newsletter 'ICT' & Cornwall HIV/AIDS Council ran over several years very successful LGBT 'PRIDE' fetes on a farm in west Cornwall, attended by hundreds of lgbt people.(as featured in GT magazine one year!)

However, it is with caution we should embrace those financial, commercial or authority interests who have previously voraciously discriminated against gay people (ie. Cornwall police) who now wish to seem to be seen (on the surface) as being 'GAY' PC, and dismiss the genuine pioneering efforts of those LGBT (Men & Women) Cornwall equality activists & campaigners of the recent past.

Devon & Cornwall Police Rates of Pay

Scales of pay are agreed within Police Regulations. The pay for all ranks is decided by the Police Negotiation Board with consists of members of the Police Authority and Home Office alongside representatives of the Police Staff Associations, an independent chairmen and independent secretariat. Police pay is reviewed annually and pay awards are normally effective from 1st September. Please see chart below:

COMPENSATION FOR HOURS WORKED

same four hour period. Any return journey time should be aggregated as part of the call out.

5.4 Where an individual works in their volunteer role during their normal working
hours, the individual must record the number of hours worked and in what capacity on the claim form, in order to receive payment at Scale 6 spinal point 26.
5.5 The hours worked will be paid at plain time up to the completion of 37 hours per
week. Thereafter the appropriate enhanced rates of pay will apply. For calculation
purposes the working week will start from Sunday 00:01 to midnight the following
Saturday.
5.6 Overtime payments will be paid at Scale 6 spinal point 26 at the prevailing hourly rate.

Council tax increase for police Devon and Cornwall Police is to increase the amount of money it gets through council tax by almost 8%.

It is above the government's recommendation of 5% and means taxpayers will pay on average an extra 20p a week for police.

For a band D property the increase represents an extra charge of just over £10 a year.

Chief Constable Steven Otter said the extra revenue will mean an additional 200 officers on the beat.

Plymouth Gay PRIDE:- From The Hearald.

A new gay, lesbian and transgender group in Plymouth is hoping to establish an annual Gay Pride parade in the city.

Out Plymouth has been formed for those who feel 'disenchanted' with other LGBT organisations in the city - and members want to hold a parade and picnic on The Hoe in the future.

The parade will assemble at the Guildhall at 2.30pm on Saturday, June 7 and leave for The Hoe at 3pm. The picnic will then take place between 3.30pm and 6.30pm.


Plymouth hosted its first Gay Pride festival at the start of June last year. The event was complete with rainbow flags, belly dancers, a boy band and hundreds of visitors.

Out Plymouth believes the city needs a parade and picnic.

Sharin Lyn, the spokesman for the new group, said: "In other cities, Pride is a calendar event and an opportunity to parade and celebrate our alternative lifestyles in the open and with pride.

"In London it is a major event on a par with the carnival at Notting Hill, and we expect visitors from many parts of the country who want to see an annual event and parade in Plymouth."

"Out Plymouth is not a splinter group, It is totally separate from and has no connections to any other LGBT groups in the city. It was formed by Out and Proud LGBT people who were and are dissatisfied with the status quo of the LGBT groups in the city who claim council grants and purport to represent LGBT issues .

It appears that Plymouth Pride Events and Plymouth Pride Forum are incestuous LGBT groups governed and run by the same few individuals . The spokesperson for "Plymouth Pride Events" who organised the Guildhall event in the city last summer , which was well attended , made the statement that Plymouth "wasnt ready for a parade" .

This is contrary to the wishes desires and aspirations of a great many LGBT people who have expressed the opinion that Plymouth is ready , and the real anger and frustration of LGBT people in Plymouth who feel poorly served by these few individuals who control the LGBT agenda and receive council funding to represent LGBT issues .

Out Plymouth is organising an alternative Pride this year which will include a parade and picnic on the Hoe , it is expected to be a small event and any who feel so inclined are welcome to join with us , there is room in this city for alternative groups and Gay Pride is not the the property of Plymouth Pride Events , Gay Pride is about individuals who have choices.

Gay Pride can be whatever we want it to be "Variety is the Spice of Life" there is room for alternatives we re not sheep to be led we are human beings with our own creative abilities and input, We have every right to arrange alternative attactions and events if we so choose .

Those who have and feel the need for a parade and wish to join the picnic on the Hoe are very welcome to do so .

The Alternative Gay Pride Event is unorganised , receives no funding or grants and has no money , it will be small and merely a congregation of like minded people , with the same thoughts, dreams, desires and aspirations in mind , to celebrate their LGBT identities together with Pride adding variety diversity and choices to the events in Plymouth on Saturday the 7th June 2008".

Law enforcers (police) have been quite zealous in the persicution & prosecution of gay people worldwide & over decades (even centuaries)

4.. Supremacy of the Military – Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

5.. Rampant Sexism – The government if fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.

6.. Controlled Mass Media – Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or through sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in wartime, is very common.

What is very sad and scary about this list is that it closely resembles the United States. The US has powerful nationalism. They have defined the word, “patriotism,” as someone who is for the wars America is involved in, has multiple, “support the troops,” stickers and has an American flag waving on their car and home. Number two is a huge topic right now. Would you give up liberty for security? American government will make you if there is one more terrorist attack. And police are ignoring all human rights more and more as time passes.

Number four is true for the US, it just seems to be less obvious. We honor our military through holidays, parades, and merchandise. No one ever bashes our military do they? I haven’t heard anyone lately.

Read number five again. It is an exact definition and description of American media. With the CFR, and direct government control of the media, this is perhaps the largest fascist characteristic in the United States today.

Number seven is another very subtle characteristic in the US. Terrorists on airplanes for example. They use fear to manipulate us. Watch FOX News tonight. They try to scare you in every story.

Homophobic Cornwall Police:- Gay Porn, Underpants & Rubber Willy's!


When ‘Simon’, an openly gay 16yr old Cornish youth, sent porn to ‘Danny’, his older 17yr old (closet) bisexual casual boyfriend, Simon had no idea of the blue touch paper of homophobia he was to light.

Danny’s mother discovered the porn on her son’s computer. Unfortunately, Danny’s mum made a leaping and homophobic assumption. The mother knew then nothing of the long-standing ‘gay’ relationship between her 17yr old son and the 16yr old gay youth. A relationship according to the brother of the gay student, which had existed prior to either student knowing or being employed by the gay businessman. However, because her 17yr old son worked for an openly gay employer, Danny’s mother felt that her son’s gay boss was somehow responsible for the porn on her son’s computer.

He was NOT!

What began was a vicious and calculated homophobic vendetta against the gay employer by the mother, Cornwall police, & other Cornish agencies.

The gay employer knew absolutely nothing about alleged porn on Danny’s computer until police raided his home and interrogated him over a period of 16hrs. According later to a half hearted Independent Police Complaints report which had insipidly investigate some complaints, ignoring entirely others, various unfounded allegations including that of a gay ‘porn’ film had also been banded about willy-nilly by Cornwall police.

This turned out to be nothing more than the gay employer had shown 16/17yr old student employees a comedy film, “The Birdcage” Cert 15, a famous ‘gay’ themed farce, starring Gene Hackman & Robin Williams. Cornwall police had seriously suggested that this well-known film could be used for ‘Sexual Grooming’ purposes, clearly indicative of the deeply entrenched homophobic views and values of Cornwall police.

If that homophobic stance by Cornwall police officers were not enough, there was yet more abuse & violation of the gay employer to come.

As it gets worse:-

The gay employer had paid for a Christmas party for his staff in a local Cornish restaurant. Nine people had attended, including the gay employer’s pensioner mother and participated in the giving of lighthearted humours ‘Secret Santa’ gifts.

‘Simon’ the 16yr old out gay youth had chosen a pair of Tesco supermarket novelty humour Christmas underpants and a small novelty rubber willy keyring, as the Christmas Secret Santa gift for ‘Danny’, his 17 yr old (closet) bisexual boyfriend. Cornwall police seriously suggested that the giving of a pair of supermarket underpants and a keyring was an offence of “Sexual Grooming” on the part of the gay employer who had thrown the Christmas staff dinner party. Police even continued pursuing this angle into Civil Crown Court. Cornwall police mislead and described the petit novelty keyring, in ways that you would have thought that it was some sort of mains powered ‘rampant rabbit’ super dildo, which would make a B&Q lesbian power drill fanatic go watery eyed and weak at the knees.

In reality, it was a tiny fun novelty keyring, which would fit entirely in the palm of one hand.

But it gets worse:-

In a written statement taken by police, ‘Danny’, clearly identifies he was shown boy & adult homosexual porn on a DVD disc in the possession of ‘Simon’, on ‘Simon’s’ own lap top computer. Cornwall Police again leapt to homophobic asumption that the gay employer was somehow responsible, despite it clearly being ‘Simon’ identified by ‘Danny’ who was in possession of the said porn DVD and the images shown by Simon to Danny on Simon’s own lap top.

But Police decided to target and raid the gay employer’s home. NO illegal porn discs were found and the employer’s computer, which police seized, police later had to admit in both an IPCC report (Independent Police Complaints Commission) and in Civil Crown Court, that there were NO ILLEGAL images on the gay employer’s computer.

But it gets worse:-

According to a written statement from ‘Suzi’, a young women in her 20’s. She had witnessed when ‘Simon’ was asked if he had any knowledge of illegal child porn that police were questioning the innocent gay employer about. According to witness ‘Suzi’, ‘Simon’ immediately began to destroy the hard drive in his lap top computer, removing it, pouring boiling water over it and then breaking it apart with a knife. The hard drive said to entirely been destroyed, Simon assisted in its distribution into the countryside by a much older gay male friend of Simon’s.

But it gets worse:-

Danny’s mother had the homophobic bit between her teeth against her son’s now former employer. The mother, effectively aided by the police, began spreading rumour the gay employer had HIV/AIDS. There were hostile phone calls received by the beleaguered gay employer from the father of the girlfriend of one the gay employer’s student staff, expressing his concerns about means of HIV/AIDS transmission. This because of malicious rumour proliferated by the Mother of the staff member Danny. Danny’s mother even alluded to warning her son of his employers HIV/AIDS risk to her son, in written statement taken by police against the gay employer.

It was necessary because of the malicious allegations, for the Gay employer to get a letter from the Truro GU Clinic, stating he did NOT have HIV/AIDS. When the gay employer tried to talk to the mother, she simply screamed a torrent of homophobic abuse at him in the streets in front of a witness.

Danny, the son, later informed his former gay employer that Danny’s mother had in her sons opinion conspired with a third party to make yet further false allegations against the gay employer. These allegations against the gay employer investigated by police and NFA’d, (No Further Action) there were No charges, No conviction, No Prosecution. However, the police managed to intimidate & violate the confidence of a huge number of gay/bisexual witnesses in Cornwall as a result.

But it gets still worse:-

So concerned at the malicious harassment he was enduring from the mother of student Danny, the gay employer made a complaint to the police about her. The Homophobic stance of Cornwall Police shone through again.

In a written response from a Cornwall police Inspector at Helston, with reference to the mother screaming homophobic abuse in the streets, the mother spreading malicious rumour of the gay man having HIV/AIDS and the mother conspiring with a third party to make malicious false allegation of a serious sexual nature

…according to Cornwall police…in writing…the above is NOT HOMOPHOBIC harassment!

That is STILL indicative of the HOMOPHOBIC stance, thinking, practises, & attitude of Devon & Cornwall Police in 2008 towards homophobic “Hate Crime”.

According to Peter, a former 15yr old boyfriend of former student ‘Simon’. Simon had admitted to Peter when they were going out, that he, ‘Simon’ was responsible for some photographs taken of some people just larking about. Innocuous horseplay, but which Cornwall police had again tried to imply were indicative of something else more sinister in the police headlong prejudicial homophobic pursuit of the gay employer. Peter said to have broken up with Simon due to Simon continuing his prior intimate ‘relationship’ with Danny.

The outcome:- The gay employer was not charged, or convicted of any criminal offence in what has become a four-year long vindictive and malicious Cornwall police homophobic vendetta against him.

The gay employers has attempted suicide twice, as a direct result of Cornwall police misconduct & abusive practises during the four year persicution. The gay employers businesses were destroyed by the continuous Cornwall police homophobic vendetta against him.

In 2008, the Devon & Cornwall police homophobic vendetta has still not abated. The gay former employer has since 2004 has had his home raided yet again for a 2nd time by police, has been subjected to police vehicle stops, intimidation and numerous un-logged visits to his home by police, these calculated to further intimidate and harass the gay man by the deeply homophobic Cornwall police.

The gay former employer has been violently assaulted twice, physically threatened and attempted extortion blackmail attempted against him.

But Cornwall police just don’t want to know…well the victim is gay!

So entrenched is Cornwall Police Homophobic stance…that police decline to act against the perpetrators, decline to interview gay/bi witnesses and in general, Devon & Cornwall Police continue to behave in a completely homophobic manor still in 2008!

Unfortunately, the IPCC is just as homophobic as the Cornwall Police and declines to investigate!

DURING his three years as a NSW police officer, Dallas McCarthy endured taunts of "poofter boy" and "fag dog" - not from criminals but from his own colleagues.

Mr McCarthy claims he was ordered by a superior to introduce himself to senior officers as "pillow-biter". And he says when he discreetly complained he discovered a handful of chopped liver in his locker and a note warning: "Your heart's next."

The former constable abandoned his ambition of becoming a gay and lesbian liaison officer, quitting the force in disgust last April.

In his initial letter of complaint, while stationed at Cabramatta, Mr McCarthy told of being ridiculed by an officer in the tea room with the claim that he give his boyfriend a pillow for Valentine's Day.

The same officer also allegedly asked if the doughnut he was eating "reminded" him of anything. Later, he was assigned to visit a local sex shop, where he might be able to "look for a new pillow to buy".

Mr McCarthy said he had appealed to a superior, yet word of their supposedly private meeting leaked back to his tormenters within days.

He then went to the force's employee management branch and was placed on a witness support program. However, fictitious payback complaints began emerging about his own behaviour.

Mr McCarthy said an internal investigation into the chopped liver incident put it down to "an officer subjected to harassment by other officers" but failed to identify who was responsible.

He eventually obtained a transfer to Bankstown but the vilification started again after a management shake-up.

Mr McCarthy, who has insulin-dependent diabetes, suffered heightened blood glucose levels, and he became so despondent he resigned.

On Friday, a NSW Police spokeswoman said the Cabramatta allegations were "thoroughly investigated and appropriate disciplinary action was taken against the perpetrator".

A spokesman for Police Minister David Campbell said the minister had received a letter from Mr McCarthy.

"He was satisfied that the issues raised had been dealt with internally by police headquarters," he said.

Mr McCarthy said while he had been "embarrassed, belittled, extremely intimidated and shaken" by his experience in the police force, he was determined to move on with his life. He has started a new job and a teaching degree.

On Saturday, he hopes to volunteer at the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade as a show of support for his former colleagues who will be marching in police uniform.

To those who believe the myth that the police aren’t homophobic, this story is a case in point. This gay police officer was effectively forced out of the police force due to constant homophobic harassment by his colleagues and superiors. He’s a victim of his own naive belief that the police force can play a good role towards the gay and lesbian community with such things as the gay and lesbian liaison officers, which he was aspiring to become.

But the fact is the whole institution of the police force is designed to maintain oppression against queers. This isn’t an old idea that has been defeated. Due to the unpopularity of homophobia and the struggles for queer liberation, they have been forced to not be so open about it, but the fact remains that homophobia still is rampant within the police force, even in its veiled forms.

That is why it’s such an insult for the police to have a float in the Mardi Gras, especially considering the whole history of the event which first took place 30 years ago. The gay and lesbian community and its supporters marched on Oxford Street in defiance of the police. The police then arrested gays and lesbians for asserting their right to march. So the history of the Mardi Gras is about standing up for queer rights in the face of police violence. Allowing the police to march is covering up this history and the continued problem of homophobia perpetrated by the police force in the here and now.

FORT LAUDERDALE - The shooting death of a gay teenage boy who was dressed in women's clothing is being investigated as a possible hate crime, while detectives try to determine whether he was targeted because of his sexual orientation.

Simmie Williams Jr., 17, was attacked on the 1000 block of Sistrunk Boulevard by two young men who wore dark clothing and might live in the neighborhood, police said. Williams, who was wearing a dress and was known in the area by his first name or as "Chris" or "Beyonce," was shot about 12:45 a.m. Friday and soon afterward died at Broward General Medical Center, police said.It's unclear what Williams was doing in the area, about four miles from his house, but police are investigating whether he was working as a prostitute, officials said.

Williams' mother said her son was openly gay, but she didn't know what he did when he went out at night, and she didn't know he wore women's clothes.

"I gave him $2 for the bus and he never came back," said Denise King, who lived with her son west of Fort Lauderdale. "He was a quiet person, kept to himself. He had a lot of friends. He wasn't a troubled child. He was a happy person."

At the same time, being black, gay and dressing in women's clothing made Williams "a minority within a minority within a minority," said Grant Lynn Ford, dean of Sunshine Cathedral in Fort Lauderdale, a church that ministers to gays, lesbians and their families.

Sometimes people picked on Williams, but he knew how to brush it off, his mother said.

Williams had signed up Wednesday for Job Corps, a federal government program designed to teach students vocational skills. He planned to get his GED and then go to culinary school, his mother said.

"That's what he really wanted to do. That's all he talked about," said King. "He spent the whole day with me yesterday, played with his nephew and cooked dinner."

Then he left the house Thursday night to go to Sistrunk, where the family lived at one point, she said. A few hours later, he was dead.

"We're looking into the possibility of a hate crime. There were some words exchanged prior to the shooting," said Detective Katherine Collins, spokeswoman for Fort Lauderdale police. She would not elaborate on what was said before Williams was killed.

Any case where investigators or prosecutors determine that a victim was targeted based on race, color, ancestry, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, mental or physical disability or advanced age can be deemed a hate crime. The label adds extra time to criminal sentences, upon conviction.

The corner where Williams was found is a popular hang-out for transgender prostitutes, police and residents said.

Sharia Ranson said she has noticed them from her home in the Oak Park apartments at Sistrunk Boulevard and Northwest 10th Avenue, where she has lived for two years.

Wearing dresses and makeup, they often stood in groups of three to five, Ranson said.

However, they are usually older than Williams, police said.

"Most of the time you see adults," said Detective Brice Brittenum, Fort Lauderdale police liaison to the gay and lesbian community.

A gay ‘casual sex pick-up’ website has banned some gay men from expressing genuine concerns regarding homophobic policing attitudes & practises as experienced by gay persons in the county of Cornwall.

The website ‘Gaybod’ (or GAYBOG as it is sometimes known) is used primarily by those men wishing to arrange gay/bisexual meetings at ‘cruising’ or in public toilets (known as:-cottages) for casual sexual encounters. Several concerned gay persons had attempted to raise awareness via the ‘gaybod’ website of continuing problems encountered regarding numerous incidents policing problems towards gay persons in Cornwall.

There is a clear and heavy presence of police monitoring and input into the ‘cottaging’ website, however some gay persons were most concerned that this may be misleading in the case of Cornwall, where there are known Gay Community problems still experienced with local police.

Last year in 2007, a group of Gay Men, Gay Women & Gay Youth got together and organised the 1st Cornwall Gay Pride Beach Day, which was a great success. However, policing problems prior to the Beach Day had such an adverse impact & effect that the Cornwall Gay PRIDE steering group disbanded after the PRIDE BEACH DAY out of genuine expressed fears and concerns regarding continuing negative policing attitudes in Cornwall towards gay people.

Cornwall Police have now arranged a 'SAFER CRUISING' evening to be held at BarQdos in Truro on 7pm on the 6th March, using the ‘cottaging’ website to target those men in Cornwall who cruise or cottage in public toilets.

Newquay's new gay bar opened with a flourish of camp colour at the weekend.

Drag Queens from Manchester's Canal Street entertained inside the Queen Vic as revellers danced the night away until the early hours.The Fore Street bar, formerly known as Corkers Quayside, had been transformed into a party-goers paradise for more than 400 revellers.

Manager Laura Connock was delighted with the opening night.

She said: "It was absolutely fantastic. We had about 200 people in at any one time and 400 throughout the night.

"It was a fantastic atmosphere and no aggravation at all. There were so many straight people there and so many people came up to me as they were leaving to thank me."

Bar bosses hope the Queen Vic will become the number one gay venue in Cornwall.

On Saturday night, people travelled from Redruth, St Ives, Camborne, Truro and from other parts of the county to join in the party.

Miss Connock said: "I really hope it will be successful for a long time. We are going to stage a big event every single weekend. The bar will be open during the day as well."

The Queen Vic currently has a licence to open until 2am but is currently applying for a 4am licence. Plans are also afoot to extend the premises to allow a capacity of 700 people which will also enable the venue to stage shows.

God knows, we have tried to get Devon & Cornwall Constabulary, Independent Police Complaints Commission, Cornwall Police Authority…, and others, to address the problem of Homophobic attitudes & practises prevalent within the Cornwall police force.

Our letters & emails ignored and un-replied too!

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is in our personal experience, a fiasco. The IPCC does not protect the public from police abuses of power, misconduct, & criminality carried out by police officers (in our experience). The majority of our complaints against Cornwall police simply swept under lumpy office carpets of the IPCC, un-investigated.

Unfortunately, even gay organisations, like The Intercom Trust, are overly keen to appease police. Tragically, Intercom seriously let down many gay people in Cornwall, having lost sight of whom they are supposed to represent, the victims of police misconduct & police prejudicial practises & attitudes….gay people.

Despite our experience, we acknowledge it is not fair that ALL Cornwall police officers be tarred with the same brush, as we did encounter one exception. A single, insular police officer who conducted herself appropriately and who got a result on a homophobic incident, resulting in a written caution to someone who made homophobic threats of violence over the internet.

That police officer was THE EXCEPTION rather than the rule in the way Cornwall police still treat homophobic incidents, abuse & violations of gay peoples lives in Cornwall.

• A HOME OFFICE report in 2005 noted that HOMOPHOBIA was ENDEMIC throughout the police. It most certainly is in Cornwall in our experience.

• Complaints against Devon & Cornwall Constabulary rose by 19% last year. Making Devon & Cornwall police the 5th most complained about police force in Britain out of 43 police forces.

• The Lord Justice Kay award 2005 revealed that of 354 homophobic incidents reported to Devon & Cornwall police, only 13 were finalised in court. Many investigations never completed, such is the contempt within Devon & Cornwall police force towards gay persons.

• The twenty two recommendations made by the IPCC in 2006 as a result of partial investigation of just a 'tip of the iceberg' fraction of complaints made against Devon & Cornwall constabulary by gay person. These IPCC recommendations treated with utter contempt by Devon & Cornwall Constabulary.

We have been unable to get any of the governing authority bodies named in the header to take note or responsibility to investigate properly, fully or fairly the plethora of these interconnected complaints against Cornwall police officers. These problems we believe stem from prejudicially held institutional embedded attitudes, assumptions & practises by Cornwall police officers towards & against gay persons, their gay lives, gay relationships, & gay lifestyles.

As a gay man, I know gay people are still ‘NOT SAFE’ from homophobic attitudes & practises endemic within Cornwall institutions, in particular the Cornwall police force. As a direct result of my personal experiences, observation, & knowledge of conduct, and/or attitudes & practises of the following named Cornwall police officers. I do not believe Devon & Cornwall Constabulary has even begun to address the ‘canteen culture’ of prejudicial attitudes within its ranks.

If the authorities refuse to take seriously, the problems genuinely encountered of police officers conduct against gay persons, then gay people must act to protect themselves. The authorities responsible for overseeing the police are blatantly unwilling to investigate complaints against police.

We have tried!

Therefore, it is in 'utter' frustration & we believe for the SAFETY and awareness of other members of the Cornwall LGBT community, we now felt it imperative that gay people be aware of those police officers with whom other members of the Cornwall gay community have encountered most serious problems. Police conduct, and/or attitudes & practises, which has had a severe adverse, traumatic, violating, abusive and destructive impact upon gay people’s lives in Cornwall.

It is as a direct result of the conduct, attitudes & practises of the following police officers I and others do not feel SAFE in Cornwall as gay persons.

It is not just that the IPCC have ignored most of the complaints, but the IPCC declined to take into account the interconnection between ALL the various misconduct, and/or attitudes & practises of the police officers involved, and accumulative negative 'snowball' effect this had upon some members of the gay community.

The disbanding of the successful 2007 Cornwall LGBT Gay PRIDE beach day steering group as a direct result of ‘homophobic’ attitudes & practises of Cornwall police officers. The response in the gay press of an ‘allegedly’ appointed Cornwall LGBT diversity officer further caused anger & dismay amongst gay persons knowledgeable of the facts.

Police hold a unique position of trust & and authority of power in our society. They have to, to enable them to do their jobs properly. Bullying, abuse, misinformation, & lies carried out by police do not help achieve public confidence.

However, when authority bodies like the IPCC, Cornwall Police Authority & the senior rank within the Devon & Cornwall police force itself turn a blind eye, dismiss off hand, & ignore expressed community experiences of continuing prejudicial practises & attitudes of police officers in Cornwall. Then it comes down to the gay community itself to protect itself by being informed of those police officers with whom other gay persons have experienced genuine serious problems.

Devon & Cornwall Constabulary please take note: -

Police ignoring complaints, police spreading disinformation (as police have in the Charles De Menezes case & in our local Cornwall gay experience) in the hope complaints go away is we believe not good police practise.

Never before as a gay man have I felt so ‘AT RISK’ from institutional homophobic conduct, practises & attitudes of Cornwall police officers as I do in 2008!

Cornwall Police Misconduct & Funny 'Gay' Porn?

The Birdcage", starring Robin Williams & Gene Hackman is according to Devon & Cornwall police ...a gay porn film which can be used for "sexual grooming" purposes!

If you have seen this film, you could not describe it in anyway as being a porn film...unless you are a Cornwall police officer that is!

On a rainy day when they could not work, a gay employer in Cornwall showed some of his 16/17yr old student employees a comedy DVD. "The Birdcage", starring Robin Williams & Gene Hackman, in this famous classic comedy farce with a gay theme.

The gay employer had no idea of the homophobic reaction of Cornwall police which was to be unleashed upon him and the four year vendetta which has followed.

All the student employees knew of their employers sexuality and knew his long term partner, and it really was not an issue. Several of the students had themselves previously informed their employer of their own gay and/or ambiguous bisexuality. One of the students was even a tenant in the home of the gay employers mother, as the student's parent had thrown him out at 16yrs of age. Another student was also given temporary accommodation, by the gay employer's mother to an openly gay student. This student also thrown out by his parents at 16yrs old. In the absence of Social Services assistance to the gay/bisexual student employees, this was a supportive employer & work environment.

It was reported that the gay employer had shown students a "gay film". According to the 'HOMOPHOBIC' Cornwall police this could only mean one thing....PORN!

Cornwall Police SERIOUSLY suggested the film "The Birdcage", being a gay film, could be used for 'Sexual Grooming' purposes. If that idiocy does not demonstrate the Depth of entrenched Homophobic thinking in the Devon & Cornwall police force, I don't know what would!

Cornwall police have raided the gay employers home, not once, but twice. In the police determination to demonise him as a homosexual. In the process seizing his computer which eventually lead to the collapse of the employers businesses.

No Porn films were found during either police raid.

"Porn films simply do not make up any part of my gay lifestyle" said the gay employer. Cornwall police later had to admit both in Civil Crown Court & in an Independent Police Complaints Commission enquiry 2006, that there were NO ILLEGAL images on the gay employers computer.

However, the gay employers businesses were destroyed by the HOMOPHOBIC Cornwall police action. The Chief Constable, Mr Otter (who has previously been subject of allegations of racism by one of his own senior police officers) refuses to respond to any communication from the gay man regarding the destruction of the gay owned businesses.

...and that has not stopped an almost constant & relentless Cornwall police vendetta under the command of Chief Constable Otter, against the gay man ever since, which lead to an attempted suicide by the gay employer.

This could almost be a comic farce if it was not so serious and Cornwall police not so blatantly homophobic in their anti-gay vendetta, conduct & practise against gay persons.

There is a genuine & sinister problem within the Cornwall police force in its attitude & practices against gay persons.

Cornwall Police deservedly have the reputation as PROBABLY being the most homophobic police force in Britain.

An anti-bullying charity has welcomed a landmark ruling on cyberbullying handed down by a court in Brighton.

A 17-year-old was convicted of harassment after creating a fake profile on the social networking site Bebo and driving his former friend to attempt suicide by luring him into an online relationship and then telling friends and teachers intimate details of their online conversations.

The 16-year-old victim, from Brighton, East Sussex, swallowed 60 painkillers.

Brighton Youth Court was told the victim's life was saved by his mother, who took him to hospital.

The cyberbully, who cannot be named, pleaded guilty last month to harassment, and apologised in court on Monday to the victim.

He was given a 12-month referral order and told to pay his victim £250. The court also confiscated the his laptop.

Niall Cowley of anti-bullying charity Beat Bullying told PinkNews.co.uk:

"This is a significant legal landmark. There is an incorrect perception that real world laws do not apply online, and that harassment, intimidation and threatening behaviour will go unpunished.

"Well let this be a cautionary tale to would-be cyberbullies.

"The truth is, when you bully online, you are more likely to be caught because of your digital fingerprint.

"This young man's courage to take this case to court could well be the single greatest step in making online social networking safer for other young people. We have immense respect for him."

The BBC reported yesterday that the court heard the pair fell out after the victim revealed secrets and told lies about the defendant.

The youth then set up the Bebo profile of the fake character and lured his former friend into a cyber relationship where explicit messages were exchanged.

He was found out when he accidentally sent the victim an e-mail purporting to be from the fake character from his own address.

"The victim was then told by the defendant that not only had he made up the identity but he had been talking to their friends and others around him, including his teachers," said Suzanne Sorros, prosecuting.

"Effectively he was told that all those people were colluding against him and laughing at him.

"What caused specific distress was that this included his teachers."

Chair of the bench, Tim Chittleburgh, said he hoped the case would send a message to other youngsters.

"This was a piece of planned and sustained harassment in public," he said.

"You involved or at least intimated that teachers were aware, which was vicious."

The Cornish gay youth had previously been homophobically bullied at school. When he recieved the above messege he reported it to the Cornwall police DESPITE he had already been homophobically abused, violated & intimidated by Cornwall police (for having 'Blue Hair') and he had witnessed a violent assault upon two gay/bi persons in Helston, which police AGAIN handled HOMOPHOBICALLY.

Cornwall police response was to issue just a verbal caution to the person who had made the Homophobic & physically threatening messege to the Cornish gay youth via the bebo website;-

The Brighton Police clearly have a very different approach to homophobic threats & violence towards gay people than do the homophobically reputed (& known) Cornwall police!

In 2005, 354 homophobic incidents were reported to Devon & Cornwall Constabulary (source:-Criminal Justice Service Lord Justice Kay award), but only 13 of those cases were finalised in Court. Many were NEVER investigated properly by Devon & Cornwall police at all, such is the Homophobic attitude & practises in Devon & Cornwall Constabulary.

Intercom Trust, Eddystone Project & Cornwall Police... 'Gay Cruising'

The Intercom Trust, Plymouth Eddystone HIV/AIDS's project & Devon / Cornwall Police are holding a.... Gay 'Safer Cruising'? evening at Bar Qdos in Truro.

There is something very strange in that Intercom (who have so badly let down some gay people abused by Police in Cornwall in recent years)...and Intercom seem to be causing great dissatisfaction with former long standing members of the Plymouth PRIDE forum. However Intercom & Eddystone have gotten together with the Cornwall police (Remember Cornwall police, who have repeatedly violated & victimised some gay peoples lives ) are now to target 'Men who have sex with men', by giving 'Crusing lessons'?

(a) It was only very recently Cornwall police were staking out sand dunes on the North Cornwall coast in a crack down on Naturists and cruisers at Portreath isolated sand dunes.
